Meet Amanda.

One of Amanda’s earliest memories as a little girl was playing with her “Pregnant Barbie” and became completely enamored with the process our bodies go through to bring life into the world. Pregnancy and birth was something she longingly looked forward to. The journey to motherhood was one that she expected to be the most transforming and sanctifying moments a woman could experience. Rather than empowered and elated, her first birth experience left her feeling disregarded, ignored, and extremely frustrated. Amanda had an innate wisdom and intuition about her pregnancy which was discounted and, in the end, her baby was the one to suffer. This experience is what led Amanda to seek out alternative options to routine maternity care, and ultimately discover her calling as a midwife.

Amanda went on to have two more uncomplicated births, one of which was born in the comfort of her home and solidified her belief that the home truly is the safest place for a low risk woman to birth. In 2011 she began her journey to midwifery by apprenticing with a local midwife. For years, she assisted at home births and educated herself on all aspects of the childbearing year. Finally, Amanda took the plunge and enrolled in her formal midwifery education with Midwives College of Utah. In 2020, Amanda graduated with her Bachelors of Science in Midwifery, magna cum laude, and passed her licensing exam with the North American Registry of Midwives (NARM). Amanda is a Certified Professional Midwife through NARM and a Licensed Midwife with the Medical Board of California.

Amanda attended over 150 births over the course of her training with several different midwives in various settings from home to birth center to hospital. This This intensive background has given Amanda an acute awareness of the type of care she wants to provide to women and families. Amanda has experience and previous training with American Sign Language (ASL) and desires to increase access to midwifery care for the Deaf community. Amanda is a certified placenta encapsulation specialist and maintains certifications in both Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP). Amanda considers herself a “birth keeper” and is passionate about protecting the birthing space for both mothers and babies. She desires to empower her families through education, partaking in informed decision making, and a mindful connection and inclusion of their baby.

I was blessed to be the midwife for two best friends due over three weeks apart. These babies decided to be born two days apart and were present for each other’s births. Such an amazing experience.
